The city of Harira or Harireh, located on the north of the island, dates from the 16th century. Remaining ruins of this city served as an important commercial center during the financial boom of the island. Total area of this ancient city is 120 hectares consisting of ruins of wealthy houses, Jame Mosque, and the public Bath house which can be visited at central parts of the old city. At the northern end of the ruins, near a long rocky shore, one can spot remains of walls, deep wells, and water channels, attracting visitors of the site.

Full day in Kish:
The Kariz or the Persian Qanat of Kish, dating back to more than 2,500 years ago, is actually an underground water canal, known as a historical attraction of the island. This qanat is about 16 meters deep underground and its roof is covered with clams and corals to protect against heat. In 1994 a traditional market was established in the site with the aim of presenting traditional Iranian art and handicrafts from different provinces of Iran.
The Greek ship, one of the tourist attractions of Kish Island, was stranded near the village of Baghou in August 1966. This ship was built by William Hamilton in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1943. The length of the Greek ship is 136 meters and weighs 7061 metric tons. The cause of the ship’s sinking is still unclear.
The Coral Beach Park (Sahel-e Marjan), located near the Coral Market (Bazar-e Marjan), is considered one of the most beautiful sights in Kish and links the coral market to the sea. Kish’s coral reef has many beautiful corals, colorful mussels, snails and marine rocks.

Day 5: Qeshm Island
Qeshm Island, known as the largest island of Iran and of the Persian Gulf, is one of the islands of the Hormozgan Province and lies in the Strait of Hormuz.
Once upon a time in Qeshm, a star fell down from the sky and hit the ground right in the heart and shaped a giant, mysterious, and weird valley which we call it Stars Valley or Valley of Stars now. This geographical site is one of the most unique natural attractions in Qeshm, which is also a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites and the only geo-park in the Middle East.
On the eastern side of the island, the magnificent Qeshm attraction, Chahkooh Canyon, stands tall. With 100 meters depth and walls full of wonderful shapes and fascinating notches created by erosion.
Khorbas Cave is the continuation of Zagros mountain range folds located among coral hills. These folds are considered as ancient geological phenomena. The cave’s origin dates back to Medes (6th century BC). Khorbas has four entrances to the cave overlooking the south coast of the island.
Whenever we think of forests, walking through the trees comes along with it. But this is not true about Hara Forest. Hara Forest trees are living in the salty waters of the Persian Gulf. The forest is one of its kind and one of the rare natural phenomena. But how they survive in salty water is the miracle these evergreen trees do. They receive the salty water, ward off the salt, and use the freshwater. Every year a lot of migratory birds find refuge from cold weather here.

It’s amazing that the cave is older than the Cambrian period, something about 570 million years ago. Salt deposit layers and various minerals, has created a fascinating colorful view on the entrance. Every layer has a lot to say about different eras of our planet. The floor is covered by crystalline salt among stalactites. The salt of Namakdan Cave is used for different medical purposes. For instance, staying in the cave can help respiratory patients to recover better.

I never expected people in southern Iran to be so genuinely warm and hospitable. In Bandar Abbas, our local host cooked us fresh fish and shared stories about life by the sea—I felt completely at home. Qeshm’s untouched landscapes were the highlight of my trip.

Southern Iran surprised me in the best way. The colorful markets in Kish, the sunsets by the beach, and the calm atmosphere made this a perfect escape. What truly stood out, though, was the hospitality—we were invited into homes and treated like family.

This trip gave me a different perspective on Iran. It was relaxing, eye-opening, and rich with culture. I especially loved the boat rides near the mangroves and the seafood feasts in local cafés. I’d definitely recommend this route to curious travelers.
